Ten Forward
After thorough research, we had decided on bahceci for IVF treatment. We contacted them and a member of their team got back to us, who was not very helpful! We shrugged it off as English isn’t her first language. We booked our flight and our hotel which we sent over to her. We booked our first appointment under the impression that the clinic was only 30 mins away, and we would be able to get there with a taxi. Little did we know, that the traffic in Istanbul is horrendous, looking at over an hour in a car. That’s if you can even convince a taxi to take you there. Our representative did not mention distance or how difficult it would be getting there, or even how many times we would have to visit the clinic. At the clinic, the reception staff speak very little English and come across quite rude, abrupt and dismissive. We requested a second representative, to replace the first one at this appointment. The second representative was Betul who was very kind, caring and wore a smile. We felt she represented bahceci well and carried a smile throughout. She was the only one who we felt actually put patient care at forefront. Our appointment was booked for 2pm. We weren’t seen until 3:30pm. No apology or excuse. At the appointment dr Gurkan wasn’t even facing us, just looking at the screen in-front of him. They asked for blood test that we had already done here in the uk. I provided those results but they said we had to redo them again which cost us €1,100. We also paid for the consultation which was €210.00. We had a dye scan to see if the fallopian tubes were blocked at another hospital which went well, I was provided with the images to take away. We were told to come back at a later date to discuss the results and discuss treatment. To get to this appointment we had to get the metro bus as no taxi would take us. It took over 2 hours to get to the clinic. During our second appointment, Dr Gurkan came into the room, we weren’t even addressed. He requested another scan which my husband wasn’t allowed in for the second time, making me feel uncomfortable. This for me I would say is when I had decided I would not go through with any treatment. The scan was invasive, he didn’t inform me what he was doing or talk me through anything. In fact he was too busy chatting to the nurse in Turkish. I was in pain, which I loudly exclaimed repeatedly and he just carried on. When he had finished he stood chatting with the nurse, at the end of my feet, where I was partially naked. He hadn’t said it’s over or you may get dressed now. He literally just stood at my feet whilst i was naked. When I came back to the room he discussed our options. I asked for more time and he winked at my husband to say let’s leave it at that. We both decided we were not going through with the treatment. Our concern was if they could treat a patient like this while awake. How would they treat you whilst under anaesthetic. We sent a message over, letting them know. We paid extra to have our flight bought forward. We missed out on a refund from the hotel for the remainder of our time booked. Once back in England, it took us 2 weeks to even get the results for the test we had done and paid a lot of money for. We never received the scans back at all! The representative had the audacity to say you never asked for the results from the scan, during it. They said they never had any records of the scans being done apart from the doctors word. According to the representative, it was our fault for not asking for our scans to be recorded. From start to finish this has been an ordeal. What is already a stressful situation to be in, we felt bahceci added fuel to the fire. They have none to very little patient care and it is all about the money. We were completely drained by them. I would also like to add, the legality should be questioned here. They take payment upfront before conducting anything which shouldn’t be standard practice anywhere. They also don’t make you sign any documents or contracts, so we have no way of fighting them or holding them accountable.
